Bus Stop Chair

Here's another chair for the comfort of old ladies at bus stops. This one is now on the A482 Lampeter Road (near Pumpsaint).

I got four of these chairs free from the local tip, I painted this white and covered it with a skirt from a charity shop.

I really liked the pattern, I would call it 'Top Shop Vorticism' as it certainly has something of Percy Wyndham Lewis about it.

To keep up the Robert Thompson tribute I added another rubber mouse. The label is the same also.

1950's 'Festival' Armchair

This is a Parker Knoll wing-back chair from the 1950's appropriately covered in 1951 'Festival' fabric by Sanderson. The print was originally designed by the great Jacqueline Groag and now reissued by Sanderson to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain where this fabric was launched.

This chair is for sale at £375. John Lewis are selling a collapsed-looking chair in this fabric for £1100 no less.

Here's designer Jacqueline Groag, the Czech interloper looking the epitome of cool as if to somehow endorse this chair. I'm sure she'd like it more than the John Lewis one anyway.

Abandoned Chair

There are lots of seat-less bus stops in my area where old ladies have to stand up, I am making it my business to rectify this. Here's the first step. This chair currently sits in the lopsided shelter on the A40 past Llandeilo (on the Pen-y-banc turn-off), how long it stays there remains to be seen.

The chair was given to me and is re-upholstered using waste stuffings and covered in an old jumper.

In tribute to Robert Thompson (the mouseman furniture maker) I included an orange rubber mouse.

Bath Chairs

Here's a couple of bath chairs I repainted and recovered in some offcuts for a lady down the road.

Now the backlog of commissions has been dealt with I'm looking forward to getting on with something a little more flamboyant.

'Winter' Bath Chair

A British 1980's paper-twist bath chair, repainted in '1990 Natural' paint. The seat is re-upholstered and covered in 1990's 'winter' print. So that's UK 80's, 90's - got that?

Actually, this used to be a commode but I removed the potty and added a hardboard base, so now when you lift the seat - Voila - a place to store your plastic soldiers.

This chair can be yours for a bargain seventy five quid.

Balloon-back Chairs

A pair of mid 19th Century balloon-back side chairs, re-upholstered and covered in vintage Welsh wool blanket.

Ninety quid for the pair. Can't be bad.

Horseshoe-back Ladies' Chair

Early 19th Century Ladies' Chair with horseshoe back in ornate mahogany, covered in Sanderson 'Ink' velvet.

When I opened this up the rails were so shot-through with the last upholsterer's staples that they pretty much fell apart so I had to 'do a job' on this chair and make modifications to the arms, legs and back to make it work.

This took me fifty hours to complete. Yes fifty. In future I may choose to leave these well alone.

1950's 'Half and Half' Dining Set

1950's beech dining chairs/dining stools, designed to be stored under the dining table to save space. Reupholstered in a 1990's foresty print.

They have those lovely curved bridle joints in the knees. For Sale at 100 pounds the lot. Can't be bad.

Ottoman for Mr. Morris

Here's another blanket box, stripped, painted and with a reupholstered seat from recycled wool. Covered in William Morris print. This was a commission.

William Morris is known to have said

"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful"

Fair enough.

Menna's Chair

A child's chair that was once a rocking chair. Stripped and braced to make firm then reupholstered and covered in spotty damask. This was a commission.

Blanket Box Green

Here's another blanket box with reupholstered seat pad, covered in cotton. Sold now.

Two blanket boxes looking rather fetching in the windows of our gallery along with some pretentiously placed items of a similar colour.

Blanket Box Blue

Large wicker blanket box covered in blue/purple cotton mix fabric. It looks rather like London Transport moquette (from the old Routemaster Bus seats) but it isn't. Would look excellent at the end of your bed don't you think?

Hepplewhite Chair

OK, it's a reproduction 'in the style of Hepplewhite' dining chair but it's still very old, probably late 1880's. It's stamped VII so is from a large dining set. Very generous proportions. Nicely worn with some great copper botch-repairs (see detail) adding very much to the charm. The seat is re-upholstered and is covered in a bright linen which I think is only partly successful so I'm likely to re-cover this and am happy to do so free for anyone who wants to buy it (and has some material).

Child's Dish Chair

 

A 1960's wicker bath chair that looks much like a satellite dish. Seat pad covered in tough wipe-clean cotton so you won't mind the kids sitting on it. Includes secret storage area for toys because kids love that don't they?

This chair is sold but I might be able to find you another if you're very keen.

Edwardian Ladies Chair

Reproduction Edwardian Ladies Chair fully reupholstered with traditional horse-hair and hessian, deep-buttoned back and covered in cobalt blue velvet. Or as I prefer, Yves Klein Blue velvet.

Atomic Chair

1950's handmade chair with something of the 'atomic' period about it. Handmade/homemade by an eccentric chap in Llanelli (according to the house clearance auctioneer) of oak and mahogany. It's big enough for an adult but maybe more of a child's chair. Covered in genuine Tweed with orange flecks.
